Areas of clinical focus
Pain & Recovery
Pain is one of the most common reasons people seek acupuncture.
This may include back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, sciatica, headaches, migraines, arthritis, sports injuries, overuse injuries, or pain that has become persistent over time.
Pain is not always a simple measure of tissue damage. It may be influenced by the nervous system, movement, sleep, stress, previous injury, inflammation, and other factors.

Brain & Nervous System
The nervous system influences sensation, movement, sleep, attention, pain sensitivity, emotional regulation, and recovery.
We work with people experiencing nerve-related symptoms, headaches, migraines, ADHD-related concerns, Bell’s palsy, concussion recovery, peripheral neuropathy, stress-related symptoms, and other neurological presentations where acupuncture may play a supportive role.
Acupuncture does not replace appropriate medical care. It may, however, be used as part of a broader healthcare plan.

Women’s Hormonal Health
Hormonal changes can affect much more than menstrual cycles.
They may influence sleep, mood, energy, temperature regulation, pain sensitivity, digestion, and overall wellbeing.
AcuVitae supports women experiencing menstrual symptoms, PMS, painful periods, perimenopause, menopause-related changes, and related concerns.
The goal is to understand the pattern, not force every person into the same treatment model.

Movement & Performance
Movement problems are rarely only about one muscle or one joint.
The body adapts to pain, injury, posture, sport, work, and habit. Sometimes those adaptations are useful in the short term but become limiting over time.
Acupuncture and electroacupuncture may be used to support recovery, reduce tension, influence neuromuscular function, and help the body move more comfortably.

Stress, Sleep & Wellbeing
Sleep is not just rest. It is part of nervous system regulation and recovery.
Stress, poor sleep, pain, hormonal changes, and fatigue often reinforce one another. When the body spends too much time in a heightened state, symptoms may become harder to resolve.
Treatment may focus on helping the nervous system shift toward a more regulated state so the body has a better opportunity to recover.

Acupuncture and electroacupuncture as part of an integrated treatment approach
At AcuVitae, acupuncture and electroacupuncture are used as part of a structured clinical approach.
Treatment is not based on a fixed protocol applied the same way to every person. It is adapted according to your symptoms, sensitivity, health history, treatment goals, and how your body responds.
Electroacupuncture is often a standard part of the clinical toolkit at AcuVitae. Small electrical currents are gently used to stimulate specific points, muscles, nerves, or treatment areas as part of a broader strategy for pain, recovery, neurological function, and regulation of the nervous system.
Some treatments are gentle and minimal.
Others are more active and stimulatory.
The choice depends on what is appropriate for the person in front of us.
What happens at your first visit?
Your first visit is designed to give us time to understand what is going on.
We will discuss your main concern, your health history, previous treatments, current symptoms, lifestyle factors, and what you are hoping to achieve.
You may be asked questions that seem, at first, unrelated.
Sleep, digestion, stress, energy, appetite, hydration, injury history, and daily habits can all provide useful information.
Sometimes a small detail changes how the whole picture is understood.
By the end of the first visit, you should have a clearer sense of what we are looking at, what treatment may involve, and what a reasonable next step would be.
Is acupuncture uncomfortable?
Most people are surprised by how fine acupuncture needles are compared with the needles used for injections or blood tests.
Treatment is always adapted to the individual. Some people need very little stimulation. Others respond well to a more active treatment style.
The aim is not to force a technique, but to use the right level of stimulation for your body, your condition, and your treatment goals. In my practice, I have found gentle stimulation to be more effective generally speaking.
Meet Mike
Mike’s clinical approach is shaped by a long-standing interest in how complex systems work.
Before practising acupuncture, he studied information systems and the ways different parts of a system interact to create larger patterns.
That way of thinking continues to influence his work in clinic.
Rather than seeing symptoms as isolated events, Mike is interested in how pain, movement, stress, sleep, hormones, the nervous system, and recovery interact.
His role is to listen carefully, ask useful questions, apply appropriate treatment, and help patients understand their health more clearly.

A note on realistic care
Acupuncture can be a valuable part of healthcare, but it is not a substitute for emergency medicine or necessary medical treatment.
If your symptoms require urgent medical attention, you should seek appropriate medical care.
If you are taking prescribed medication, acupuncture treatment does not by itself justify stopping or changing that medication.
Acu Vitae supports an integrative approach. That means respecting the role of other healthcare providers while offering acupuncture as a thoughtful, complementary form of care.
